On the initiative of our tenant and in cooperation with the Regional Centre for Blood Donation and Haemotherapy in Krakow, a blood donation event will be held this Monday, December 2, 2019, in the atrium of building 800. This is not the first time you are invited to participate in this noble event.
Who can be a donor?
Anyone between the ages of 18 and 65 in general good health condition can become a blood donor. Additionally, they must weigh at least 50 kilo, have not undergone acupuncture, tattooing, ear piercing or other body parts piercing in the last 6 months. What is more have not had any surgery, endoscopy or other diagnostic tests (e.g. gastroscopy, laparoscopy) in the last 6 months. Likewise have not been treated with blood or blood products.
On the day of donation…
People who volunteer to donate blood should be healthy, well-slept and rested. In addition, they should have eaten a light, low calorie meal and drunk about 1.5 litres of fluids in the 24 hours prior to donating blood. A candidate for blood donation should be able to speak and write in Polish in order to be able to complete the questionnaire without the assistance of other person. A document with a photo and a PESEL number will be required. The campaign, which is being organised in the lobby of building 800, is open and is on the list of campaigns held by the RCfBD in Krakow.
The Red Thread
RCfBD in Kraków was established in 1999 following transformation of the Regional Blood Donor Station. Its priority task is to collect blood and its components from blood donors. Than process it to make preparations necessary for saving the lives and health of patients requiring transfusions. Currently, there are over 56,000 blood donors registered at the RCfBD in Kraków in the Malopolska Region. Above all, this unit carries out about 800 blood collection drives a year, including about 150 using a mobile blood collection centre. Together with the National Blood Centre, RCfBD also conducts marketing activities to spread awareness of the need for blood collection and to attract donors. One such initiative is the national campaign “Your blood, my life”.
The Red Thread, the symbol of this initiative, is intended to show that there are people around us who donate blood and that it is worth being inspired by their attitude. The campaign was designed to create a community of people in Poland who are aware of the need to donate blood, do it willingly and regularly, providing for national needs in this area. It is worth picking up the Red Thread and joining the network of people who, by donating blood, ensure that we can all feel safer.
